WordPress, and a developer who did not get the business

Hopedwell Training Academy came to us worn down by their own website. It was built on WordPress, heavy with plugins, and slow. Worse than slow, it was rigid. Every time they wanted a change they had to go back to a developer who took forever to make it and never really understood how a training academy actually works. Setting up a new course meant rebuilding programs, courses, locations and schedules from scratch every single time. The technology and the people behind it were both getting in the way of the business.

The real problem was repetition

When you run training, most of what you do is a variation on something you have already done. The same course, run again next month, at a different location, with new dates. On the old setup none of that was reusable. Staff retyped the same details over and over, which is slow, dull and a reliable way to introduce mistakes. The brief was not really "make it faster." It was "stop making us do the same work twice."

What we built

A custom Laravel and React platform built around reuse instead of repetition. The major parts:

• • A program, course, location and schedule structure where things are created once and reused, not rebuilt each time
• • One-click duplication everywhere it earns its keep: copy a course, copy a schedule and just change the dates, or copy a whole program structure with its courses, locations and schedules for a corporate client in a single action
• • A full in-house training side built as its own first-class system rather than a checkbox, so company-specific course packages, registrations, attendance and assessments live separately from the public catalogue
• • Online payment through Xendit, with a proper HRDC quotation and document-upload flow for government-funded training
• • Certificates generated with QR codes and real trainer signatures, plus a public page where anyone can verify one
• • Four separate portals for the people involved, members, company persons-in-charge, trainers and sales agents, each seeing only their own part of the system
• • Memberships and tiers, course discounts and coupons, and a sales agent and commission system
• • Trainer self-registration with OTP verification, document uploads, schedule assignments, blocked dates and an application review flow

Fast where it counts

The old site was slow for visitors and slower to change. The new one runs on a lean Laravel and React stack with no plugin baggage, so pages load quickly and the team gets the changes they ask for without waiting on someone who does not understand the work. The awkward cases have proper homes too: refunds, reschedules and cancellations now run through request-and-approval flows instead of ad-hoc favours. The system bends to how Hopedwell actually operates instead of forcing them to work around it.

The part that changed their week

The duplication feature is the one that quietly gives people their time back. What used to be a from-scratch rebuild for every new course or corporate client is now a copy, a few date changes, and done. Multiply that across a busy training calendar and it is the difference between admin filling the day and admin being a small task in it.

Where it stands now

Hopedwell runs on a fast, custom platform that fits the way they work. Courses are set up in minutes by reusing what already exists, payments and HRDC paperwork are handled inside the system, certificates are issued and verified online, and the team can see what is happening in real time. The WordPress site that was slow to use and slow to change has been replaced by something built around their business rather than against it.
